#MakeYourMark assemblies at AHA!

This week’s Achieve Together assemblies have been led by Florence Orchard, current sixth form student and member of Gedling Youth Parliament. Florence was joined by fellow members, Abigail Hutchison, Myles Kirk and Elodie Lammiman-Allen, as she talked to students about the exciting opportunity they have to “make their mark” in parliament on issues affecting young people.

Make Your Mark assembly 28.9.17

Our students will each receive a ballot paper for them to vote on the one issue they would like the UK Youth Parliament to campaign for on their behalf. Students can choose from; a curriculum to prepare us for life, votes at 16, protect LGBT+ people, support for young carers, transport, first aid education for all young people, mental health, make the invisible visible, protect schools budgets from damaging cuts and work experience hubs for 11-18 year olds. Voting will take place during guidance and Florence will come back to school to deliver the verdict.

Well done and thank you to Florence and the Youth Parliament team!

Year 11 focus group get sweet treats

Our year 11 purple focus group started the year with a visit last night from Wade Smith, entrepreneur and director, of up and coming local business Doughnotts.
As well as tasting the delicious doughnuts themselves, the group had the chance to listen to Wade’s journey into business as well as his thoughts on what it takes to run a successful business.
The group thought that the talk was very informative and thought provoking, and definitely gave them a good idea of the world of work.

Year 7 book club off to a great start

Y7 book club Sept 17

Our year 7 book group met for the first time last week. This week I gift wrapped a book for each of them and they were given it as a gift, they had no idea what the book was. We will meet weekly to discuss what they have been reading and we plan to then read the books shortlisted for the Nottinghamshire Brilliant Book Award.
