Year 7 girls are futsal champions

We are delighted to announce that our Year 7 girls’ football team have been crowned champions in the Nottinghamshire School Sport Futsal tournament. The girls represented Gedling borough in the competition and beat teams from Rushcliffe, Bassetlaw and Mansfield before meeting Ashfield in the final. The whole team played with passion and great enthusiasm and claimed victory with a 3-1 win in the final. A special mention was given to our keeper for making some magnificent saves and only conceding three goals throughout the tournament.
Well done girls, we are very proud of you all!

BBC News School Report 2018

25 of our year 7 students took part in BBC News School Report last week. BBC News School Report gives 11-16 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience and to develop their journalistic skills. It was a fantastic day with pupils interviewing a range of staff and their peers, all giving their view of current affairs.

Read all about it in this hot off the press, special edition of the Arnold Hill Academy Times.

Celebrating World Book Day!

It all began when the Sorting Hat decided who will be in what house, the houses then competed for house points throughout the evening. Activities included face painting, origami, a Diagon Alley treasure hunt, a spell off, tea leaves reading and a Harry Potter quiz. There was also a guest appearance by our very own magical beasts the bearded dragons, courtesy of Mr Maurice-Smith!

The students devised all of the activities and worked so hard on this event. We managed to raise £80, which will be going to J.K. Rowling’s award winning international children’s charity, Lumos.

Year 12 students visit the University of Cambridge

12 of our Year 12 students recently visited Peterhouse College at the University of Cambridge for their Taster Day. Students are pictured here outside the chapel in the main courtyard of the college. Throughout the day, our students met with current Peterhouse undergraduates studying a range of courses, had a tour of the college, sampled a two course lunch in the dining room, looked at the Oxbridge application process and attended sample lectures including Linguistics and Economics Game Theory. The students were a delight to spend the day with and we all had a fantastic day.
Thank you, Ms Carter and Mr Callaway.
