A passion for poetry
Thursday 28th September is National Poetry Day, and here in Arnold Hill’s English department we are passionate about poems. This event is an opportunity to celebrate poetry in many different forms, inspiring young people to enjoy, discover and share poems. Our Key Stage 3 students have been writing their own Oulipo poems. Oulipo is a way of playing with words and letters and originates in France. Every year poets and mathematicians meet and dream up funny new rules for generating ideas and writing poems. The idea being, if you make some rules it gives you new freedoms. It generates some very unusual ideas, and encourages students to use words they may never have thought to use!
