Arnold Hill Academy Welcomes Back Children from Chernobyl
We were delighted to welcome twelve Belarusian children back to the Academy for the day. The children stay in the local area as part of a medical respite each June to improve their health following the Chernobyl disaster. Our close work with the charity Friends of Chernobyl's Children has made this possible.
Hosted by our Year 7 ambassadors they took great delight in making pizza in Food Technology, learning and performing "Price Tag" in Music, exploring Science and then some group challenges.
Lunch was hosted in Snack Chat by last year's ambassadors and it was wonderful to see old friendships rekindled with joy.
The emotional goodbye shows the extraordinary ability of children to care and make friends despite differences in language and culture.
Our ambassadors excelled themselves in making these children part of the Academy family and provided a fully immersive experience in a British secondary school.
